In 2006, SAPI began its program to provide assistance
to our youth members by way of a college education incentive award. The initial goal was to raise funds and award these funds
to a deserving student who has been accepted in a college or university to pursue a college education. This venture was the
brainchild of Mr. Sonny Guerrero, a former member of the Executive Board. However, during the first year of this project,
we were able to raise enough funds to bestow the award to two students instead of just one. We felt that both the students
deserved it and the rest is history. The two recipients of our first College Education Incentive Award were James Chan of
Hoke County High School and Rika Mando, a graduate of E. E. Smith High School. Through the generosity of our benevolent members,
Dr. Alfred J. Bost, Jr. and his wife Carmencita Bost of Koala Day Care Centers, we raised $1,500 during our first year.
In the ensuing years, we have given financial assistance
to three more member students. In 2007, Bryan Bendana and Amber Jurkovac became our next awardees, for a total award of $1,500
and in 2008, a $1,000 award was given to Anna Marie Traje who graduated from Douglas Byrd High School.
The success of this endeavor is attributable to our
members and sponsors who continue to support our program through their generosity. Donations to this program are made in the
form of advertisements in our souvenir program during our annual fundraising events and through other fundraisers that are
held throughout the year.
SAPI will continue to support this program to benefit its youth and to help motivate them to pursue a rewarding career
for themselves and a better future for us all. Congratulations to all our outstanding students!
